In 1998 F.A.C.T. and the staff of Barnlee became aware of the need to extend our facilities to meet the needs of those who are able to live more independently. This vision became a reality in July 2001 when Lee Cottage, a bungalow on the grounds of Barnlee. They, under the umbrella of Barnlee, lead a more independent life whilst still maintaining the security of the home.
Lee Cottage is a five bedroom modern bungalow with a staff sleep over room. It is tastefully decorated in bright colours. Each bedroom has been personalized by the individual according to his/her taste and choice, furnished with vanity unites. A spacious living and dining area with fully fitted modern kitchen allows the residents to invite and cater for friends and family independently. All residents have acess to their own telephone system and there is a patio area for BBQ’s, gardening and simply enjoying the good weather when it comes!
A specially equipped laundry room encourages the residents to attend to their own personal washing and thereby enhance their independent living sills such as house keeping.
There is a continual attempt to encourage enhanced life skills through training in:
- Basic Budgeting
- Good housekeeping skills
- Awareness of security and maintenance
- Being a Good Neighbour
Some of the residents living in Lee Cottage and Barnlee are in supportive employment. Some participate in courses in Fermanagh College and other centres. All are encouraged to be actively involved in the community both personally and socially.
